A continent.
A diaspora.
A conversation.
AFROSCOPE Daily brings African visual art and its diasporas into a shared frame of reference. A place to follow the work, the ideas, and the institutions that carry them.
A thoughtful selection, with the sources in view.
We publish short, source-grounded summaries of exhibitions, artists, museums, galleries, fairs, publications, acquisitions, residencies and significant developments. We also distinguish criticism, interviews, institutional announcements and opportunities.
Our focus is substantive African relevance. A publisher’s location does not locate a story, and an artist’s name does not establish their identity. The subject, location and context must be supported by the source material. Diaspora coverage includes events outside Africa with a meaningful African or diasporic connection.
How a story reaches the edition.
- Registered feeds are retrieved on the server and checked for valid RSS or Atom.
- Original URLs, authors, publication dates and provenance are retained. Relevance screening sends candidates to an editorial queue.
- We read available source material and prepare an original summary, recording our sources and any unresolved questions. We check the region, dates, story type and image rights before publication.
- Approved stories are selected into a dated edition. The original source stays one click away.
Different reports of one event can be combined as supporting coverage after review. Shared artists or similar themes alone are not grounds for merging. Sensitive allegations, conflicting dates, disputed accounts and uncertain summaries stay in review.
Original announcement briefs.
Editors can also write short original AFROSCOPE Daily news briefs from verified official announcements. Each brief is credited to AFROSCOPE Daily and visibly labelled announcement-based coverage. The source publisher, original announcement, any credited source author, page publication date, release/document date and event timing remain separate. Institutional claims are attributed; these briefs do not imply independent reporting or endorsement. The owner reviews the source evidence, original wording, dates and headline visual before publication.
What our labels mean.
- Single-Source Report
- The story rests on one report, or independent corroboration of additional reports has not been established.
- Institutional Announcement
- The source is the museum, gallery or organisation making its own announcement. This is not independent reporting or an endorsement.
- Independently Corroborated
- At least two distinct publishers have been checked as independently reporting the same event, with the assessment recorded. Syndicated copies do not qualify.
Dates are part of the record.
Source publication dates, event timing, edition dates and retrieval times are kept separately. Importing an older article never makes it new. Unknown dates remain unknown. Edition boundaries use Africa/Accra. During an outage, the last published edition stays available and source health reflects the failure.
Automation, with editorial judgment.
We automate feed retrieval, normalization, URL deduplication, record keeping and health checks. Our scheduled, AI-assisted editorial workflow prepares original summaries from available source material and records the evidence behind them. We keep publisher excerpts as internal reference material, not finished summaries. We flag inaccessible sources and unresolved questions, and review stories before publication. Our editorial preparation runs separately from the website itself. The source directory shows the current refresh and scheduling status.
Source text is treated as material to assess, never instructions to follow. We do not bypass paywalls, reproduce full articles or borrow artwork images without permission. Headline photographs carry creator credit, a rights source and a license link. Historical portraits, venue photographs and other contextual images are captioned so they cannot be mistaken for documentation of a particular exhibition. Cropping is disclosed; the image retains its original license. Images without adequate permission stay out of the reader experience.
When a suitable licensed photograph is unavailable, an editor can choose an original AFROSCOPE Daily editorial title card. These clearly labelled typographic graphics pair the story’s headline with a muted two-colour gradient. They do not depict the people, artwork or events described, and carry no third-party photograph credit or image-license claim.
A historical archive, still growing.
The story archive is organised by original source publication date. Bounded requests retrieve historical articles from verified publisher APIs, with a saved cursor so interrupted work can resume. Date checks reject responses outside the requested period. Each historical candidate requires source verification and editorial approval; older articles are not automatically placed into a daily edition.
Historical selections record when they were added here. We do not create fictional past editions or imply that old opportunities remain open. The growing collection is selective, with visible gaps, and does not claim exhaustive coverage of every year or publisher. Year and month filters, search and original links remain available as it grows.
Opportunities, institutions and the calendar.
Our directories use original descriptions and factual details checked against official organizer pages. A programme’s location is separate from applicant eligibility. Unknown fees, funding amounts and times remain unknown. Listings are information, not endorsements or guarantees of admission, funding or safety.
Editorial review dates and automated source-check times are distinct. Scheduled refreshes check a bounded rotation of published listings against saved evidence, respecting organizer access restrictions. Changed or inaccessible pages receive a visible warning; their last reviewed information remains available. Checks do not discover new calls, renew editorial approval or replace a deadline. Editors review and publish new listings and revisions in the newsroom.
Known deadlines expire automatically. A deadline without a published time is marked for checking on its final day; rolling calls are shown only when the organizer explicitly states there is no fixed deadline. Events move into the past-event archive after their confirmed closing date. Calendar downloads are snapshots, not subscriptions, and should be checked against the organizer before use. Exhibition downloads cover the exhibition date range rather than daily opening hours.
Suggest an institution, event or opportunity using the corrections contact below, with its official link. Publication remains subject to review. We do not copy full calls or application documents. Text-only listings are intentional where image permission has not been established. The publisher works with Nubuke Foundation; its directory inclusion follows the same source checks and is not independent reporting on the institution.
Corrections & accountability.
If a date, attribution, summary or classification needs attention, contact i@afroscope.com with the story link, the issue and supporting evidence. Correction requests are reviewed against the original sources. Material changes are noted on the story; a story can be withdrawn while uncertainty is resolved.
Owners can make corrections, hold a story and adjust grouped coverage in the protected newsroom. Editorial changes and publication actions leave an audit record.
Sponsorship & independence.
Future sponsorship and advertising will be discreet and clearly labelled. Commercial placement cannot buy coverage, alter a verification label or influence a correction. There are currently no advertising trackers or paid placements on this site.
